During the contest, these rules and the existing rules of contest of the Estonian Bowling Association (EVML) will be followed. The contest is part of the Estonian bowlers’ rating system.

 

Right to participate and registration

 

The players who accept these rules and the existing rules of contest of the Estonian Bowling Association (EVML) and have paid the contest fee, have the right to participate. Contest fee for EVML members is 600 - 800 EEK, for juniors 500 EEK, for foreign participants 50 - 70 EUR, for foreign juniors 35 EUR, Fees depend on the chosen squad (see the schedule).

Desperado squad fee for EVML members is 350 EEK, and for foreign participants 30 EUR.

Registration begins on May 01, 2010 and ends on August 19, 2010 at 20:00 (8 p.m.) Later registration for the contest is possible, if there are any places left.  There’s no limit for re-entries.

Registration for re-entries: Up to three (3) registrations allowed.

Registration for clubs: the names of the players must be given at least one week before the beginning of the reserved squad.

Clothing during the contest: according to the rules of the Estonian Bowling Association (EVML)

The organizer has the right to cancel a qualification squad  if there are less that 12 registered players.

 

 

Contest description and ranking

 

Qualification

Individual, 6 games, cross-line style, up to 4 players per lane pair. Change of lane after every game: bowlers on a lane with an even number move to the right and players on a lane with an odd number move to the left.  Warm-up: 10 minutes on the starting lane. Equal scoring for men and women.  Ranking is based on the points achieved. Ladies receive 8 pins handicap per game. Ladies handicap is considered as pin fall, and in case of a tie men get no advantage.

 

Desperado Squad

Desperado Squad, 1 game. Cross-line style, 4 players per lane pair.  Ranking is based on the points achieved.

 

Composing top 36

In the final there will be 36 players, as follows:

- Top 28 from the qualification, seeded 1-28.

- Top 6 Estonian citizens who were not ranked among the top 28, seeded 29-34

- Top 2 from the desperado squad, seeded 35-36.

 

Final step 1

Players seeded 17-36 in the qualification will play 4 games. The results of the qualification will not be taken into account. After 4 games, top 8 of these players will continue to the final step 2. Players not continuing will be ranked 25 – 36  according to their position in the final step 1.

 

Final step 2

The 8 players continuing from the final step 1 and the players seeded 9 – 16 in the qualification will play 4 games,  starting from scratch.  Top 8 of these players will continue to the final step 3.  Players not continuing will be ranked 17-24  according to their position in the final step 2.

 

Final step 3

Top 8 players from the final step 2 (ranked 9 - 16)  will play in pairs until two (2) victories.  American style. Play scheme: 9th vs. 16th , 10th vs. 15th, 11th vs. 14th and 12th vs. 13th. The 4 winners of the matches will continue to the final step 4. The 4 losers will be ranked 13-16  according to their seeding in the final step 2.

 

Seeding and matching for the final steps 4-7.

Players at positions  1 – 8 after the qualification will be seeded 1 – 8 for the next final steps.  The 4 best players after the final step 3 will be seeded 9 – 12  for the next final steps, according to their position in the final step 3. Matches for steps 4 – 7 will be combined: The highest seeded player before the final step 4 will play against the lowest seeded player. Matches will be played in the American style. 

 

Final step 4, lanes 5-12

Players ranked 5-12 will play a match until two (2) victories. Play system: 5th vs. 12th, 6th vs. 11th, 7th vs. 10th ja 8th vs. 9th. The 4 winners of the matches will continue to the final step 5. Ranking of the winners according to their seeding before the final step 4.  In the final tournament table, the 4 losers of the matches will be ranked 9–12 according to their seeding before the final step 4.

 

Final step 5, lanes 5-12

Players ranked 1-8 will play a match until two (2) victories. Play system: 1st vs. 8th , 2nd vs. 7th, 3rd vs. 6th and 4th vs. 5th  The 4 winners of the matches will continue to the final step 6. Ranking of the players according to their seeding before the final step 4.  In the final tournament table, the 4 losers of the matches will be ranked 5-8 according to their seeding before the final step 4.

 

Final step 6, lanes 1-4

The winners of the final step 5 will play a match until two (2) victories.  Play system: 1st vs. 4th , 2nd vs. 3rd .  The 2 winners of the games will continue to the final step 7.  Ranking of the players according to their seeding before the final step 4.  In the final tournament table, the 2 losers of the matches will be ranked 3–4 according to their seeding before the final step 4.

 

Final step 7, lanes 1-4

The winners of the final step 6 will play a match until one (1) victory. The winner of the match is the winner of Brunswick Estonian Open 2009.  The loser of the match will be ranked 2.

 

Tournament tie rules

 

Qualification and the final steps 1 and 2

In case of a tie the highest ranked player will be the one with the highest last game,  then the second last, etc.

 

Desperado Squad

In case of a tie in the desperado squad the a one ball roll off on a full set of pins will be played, repeated until the tie is broken.

 

Final steps 4 -7

In any case of a tie in any game in any match in the final rounds 4-7 the a one ball roll off on a full set of pins will be played, repeated until the tie is broken.

 

 

 

Prizes

 

All finalists will be rewarded, and special prizes for the top Estonians and juniors.

Additional / Other rules

A player cannot enter the desperado squad if he/she has not thrown the qualification squad. The turns of desperado squad cannot be reserved.

 

If a player wants to withdraw from a reserved squad, he/she must inform the tournament management about it at the latest 3 hours before the reserved squad. In the contrary case the player is liable to pay the fee corresponding his/her playing time.

 

Lane oiling will be performed before each squad, before final steps 1 and 4. Oiling sceme will be published at the latest 2 weeks before the beginning of the first squad of the contest.

 

Re-entry - rebate the normal fee : non EVML minus 10 EUR, EVML minus 100 EEK (not applied for Early Bird)

Re-entry fee for juniors: non EVML  30 EUR, EVML 400 EEK.
